Metro Paint-A-Thon Transitions from GMCC to Hearts & Hammers
Greater Minneapolis Community Connections, or GMCC (formerly Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches), is in the midst of exciting changes to support more effective and sustainable outcomes for our communities. Our new name is a reflection of our vision to connect people and resources in order to address our community’s most pressing issues.
For more than 110 years, GMCC has served the Minneapolis area through programs including Metro Paint-A-Thon (PAT), which has served more than 7,000 low-income households over 35 years with home improvements and exterior home painting. We want to ensure that these important services for elders and homeowners with disabilities continue and expand. As of October 1st, 2018, Metro Paint-A-Thon will transition from GMCC to Hearts & Hammers. Hearts & Hammers is the perfect home for Metro Paint-A-Thon to continue and thrive given their mission to “provide exterior home improvement assistance for senior citizens, disabled adults, and veterans.”
This change is a demonstration of GMCC’s commitment to best leverage our community’s precious resources, uplift and strengthen the core competencies of GMCC and our partners, and to prevent duplicate services, all in the interest of best meeting our community’s needs. We are currently focused on building on our history as a social justice organization addressing root causes by leveraging programs, projects, and initiatives to create effective, sustainable change. The pillars of our work are in youth and leadership development, self-sufficiency, and advocacy and civic engagement.
I encourage you to continue your support for Metro Paint-A-Thon through Hearts & Hammers. I also ask that you consider supporting GMCC as we refine and refocus our mission and vision. Our outcomes-based, top-rated programs - Minnesota FoodShare, Kinship Greater Twin Cities, and Urban Immersion Service Retreats - are the core of our work.
